Looking back at 1962, the year of independence
This paper aims to revisit the year 1962, a major event in Algeria’s contemporary history. Indeed, this year of national independence was both difficult and complex. The end of the war and the colonial order set in motion new objective dynamics, which will be discussed in this lecture: relations with the French, the official authorities and the European population; the reorganisation of the FLN/ALN; the establishment of the new institutions of an independent and sovereign Algeria; relations with third countries; and the role and involvement of Algerian men and women during this period of upheaval, etc.
