Abstract
Naming newborns within the Algerian family is far more than a mere choice of a name; it is a social practice carrying cultural meanings and values that reflect the identity of both the family and society. Indeed, a name does not only define the individual, but it also expresses the family’s perceptions and way of thinking.
In recent years, the process of choosing names has changed due to numerous factors, such as the impact of globalization, the media, migration, in addition to the shifting structure of the family and the roles of its members.
Within this framework, anthroponymy (the study of personal names) helps to understand how Algerian families choose their children's names, what meanings and perceptions they associate with them, as well as the discourse that accompanies the naming process within the family and society.
Problematic of the seminar: How do Algerian families choose newborns' names today? What ideas, perceptions, and customs influence this choice in light of the current socio-cultural changes?

This seminar aims to:
- Understand the meanings and values conveyed by personal names within Algerian society.
- Highlight the importance of naming newborns from linguistic, cultural, and social perspectives.
- Identify the methods adopted by families in choosing names, between traditions and modern influences.
- Trace the changes that have occurred in newborns' names as a result of social transformations and the impact of globalization in Algeria.
