Cultural Fields and Globalizations in Algeria "CFGA"

In a context where the conditions for a national culture are significantly challenged by international flows of cultural goods, it is essential to undertake research establishing the state of cultural fields—as defined through artistic spheres and disciplines: cinema, music, theater, literature, visual arts, and oral heritage—in relation to the transnational exchanges categorized under the term "globalization." Rather than providing a mere snapshot of institutions and actors, the emphasis will be on processes, dynamics (involutionary or devolutionary), transfers, and adaptations, while also identifying disconnections that warrant investigation. This project will largely integrate results from two prior research projects: "Cultural Heritage in Algeria" and "Intangible Heritage in Algeria," further developing axes related to representation and the emergence of new artistic practices.

Objectives:

- Identification of the components of cultural fields.

- Design of a methodology for inventorying national cultural assets.

- Establishment of indicators for the integration or autonomy of cultural structures at national, regional, and international levels.

- Categorization of human, material, and budgetary constraints by sector.

- Drafting a compendium of the normative and regulatory framework regarding cultural matters.

- Providing data for training programs related to cultural industry professions.

Expected Results / Perspectives:

- Development and consolidation of management and animation capacities for cultural structures.

- Enhancement of cultural heritage, particularly through its contribution to economic development and tourism.

- Contribution to public awareness and information regarding cultural structures and actions.

- Providing analytical and prospective materials for international cooperation frameworks (UNDP, Euromed Heritage, EU/Algeria national indicative plan, etc.)
