abstract

In early 2020, as the world confronted COVID-19, global lockdowns threw urban life into disarray. The city, our dominant living space, came to a standstill, creating an unprecedented situation. The closure of public spaces, restrictions on movement, and the widespread adoption of remote working and teaching were just some of the consequences. This volume, which brings together multiple disciplines and geographical areas, seeks to capture, analyse, and convey the effects of COVID-19 on the city. It considers both the immediate impact and the pandemic's role as a catalyst for future transformations. It is addressed to all those with an interest in urban spaces, policymakers, researchers, and residents alike, who are keen to rethink the future of city life in light of the lessons learned from this global crisis.
