abstract

The Baccalaureate: A Diploma to be Redefined as a Framework of Basic Skills" is a project that builds upon research conducted within the "Anthropology of Education and Training Systems" division of the CRASC (Research Center for Social and Cultural Anthropology). This work addresses the question: does the baccalaureate certify knowledge or skills? The curriculum framework, the guide for developing the French exam for the baccalaureate, and the secondary school curricula all emphasize the acquisition and mastery of skills. However, the French exam for the baccalaureate, as currently designed, tests knowledge rather than skills. This paradox explains the linguistic deficiencies in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) and in many other subjects taught in secondary school. This book provides answers to the initial question, and following the analysis of the collected data, it proposes a common set of references that allows us to align the objectives of our country's educational policy with the implementation of the curricula and their summative assessment.
