abstract

The term ‘Executive’ is a widely recognised and used concept, yet it remains vague and ambiguous, as it is used to refer to a social group that is diverse in its composition and heterogeneous in terms of its positions, aspirations and plans. This raises a number of interesting questions: who are these people, and how did they attain executive status? What was their social and professional background? How do they express their individual and collective identity? How do they perceive themselves and how do they present themselves to their environment (other groups within the company, in society, public authorities, professional organisations, etc.), and what kind of relationships do they maintain with the various actors in this environment?
