"Science teaching is often presented, from an epistemological perspective, as a series of independent compartments, except in physics, where the laws cannot be expressed without being translated into mathematical language via equations involving physical concepts such as mass, inertia, velocity, acceleration, and so on. But there is another example that illustrates just how much the history and development of science are marked by interdisciplinarity in scientific activities. This example is that of geography. Thus, geographical issues (such as the calculation of geographical coordinates) give rise to issues in astronomy, cartography and trigonometry, the latter being a branch of mathematics..."
