abstract

Numerous studies (CRASC, ONS, CREAD, etc.) have examined changes in family structure in Algeria. The growing trend towards the nuclear family (69% of all Algerian families), the rise in life expectancy (from 53 years in 1970 to 76 years in 2006), the more visible participation of women in the workforce, and the significant increase in school enrolment rates (97%), are among the most influential factors driving change, not only in family structure as a whole, but also at the level of the individuals who make up those families...
