Algerian Resistance

This work is the result of a research project focused on the history and memory of the Algerian resistance between 1945 and 1962. The choice of title is justified by a desire to reflect upon the various forms of opposition to colonial occupation, highlighting the complexities and discontinuities that permeated the social fabric during a particularly difficult period, one marked by the constant surveillance of the Algerians' every move. The study addresses armed resistance, but its scope extends further; civil resistance, involving broad sections of society, played an essential role in the history of the national movement and the War of Independence. In its wake, both rural and urban populations must be taken into account.
