The question of citizenship belongs to a theme that seems inexhaustible, despite the large number of studies dedicated to it since those of Enlightenment political philosophy—if not going back even further to its precursors in antiquity. For our part, we will focus more particularly in this book on contributions concerning Algeria, which were developed in recent years within the framework of two research projects as well as two other surveys, all conducted by teams from CRASC. Based on investigations into various segments of society and key institutions, the aim was to deploy questions such as : • What is citizenship, and how has Algerian society been confronted with it? • Has citizenship finally taken shape in our country, and how does it manifest itself? • What are its catalysts, obstacles, and stakes?
