abstract

This current dition of CRASC publications is part of the objectives to be achieved as part of our research project ‘Critical Reception of the Contemporary Algerian Novel’ (2013/2014/2015) within the CRASC / UCCLLA. The texts, selected by a reading committee, are the result of two study days organised in 2014 focusng on the theme of the body, ‘The Body and its Excesses in the Contemporary Algerian Novel’, and that of marginality, ‘Marginality in the Contemporary Algerian Novel’. It should be noted that these two themes also represent the main categories used in the classification of the novels analysed for the compilation of an anthology of the contemporary Algerian novel; the latter constitutes the primary objective of our project. This approach provides coherence and cohesion to our research framework. It should be noted that five themes have been selected to organise and structure the novels and authors included in the anthology: ‘Marginality and/or madness’, ‘History, memory and identity’, ‘Exile and wandering’, ‘The body and its excesses’, ‘Violence and revolt’, ‘Fantasies and delusions’. The various readings proposed are characterised by their depth, variety and relevance. However, each section presents a reflection inherent to its specific focus. We have structured this volume into two parts corresponding to the two themes addressed over the two days, organised according to the key issues raised by the participants. The first part of the work, The Body and its Excesses in the Contemporary Algerian Novel, is organized into two sections : • The Female Body and Society • Scriptural Mutations and New Discourses on the Body.
